A super hero Those end of book showdowns were pretty intense. Realistic? Only if she is a super hero. And I’m not sure how I feel about the pairing either, but that’s my opinion.

Terrific Police Thriller One of my favorite authors in this genre, she has never disappointed me. Interesting intriguing plots, diverse well developed characters and top quality writing (in that order) make for an entertaining, fast paced and intense read. This series has a complex, competent MC with a very interesting backstory which is integrated smoothly into the storyline, adding breadth to the plot.

Taut, true, tantalizing Dani Vega, former Army Ranger, present FBI agent, once again is tossed into a violent world of assassination, lies, fraud and cruelty. Her boss Wu has her back, her colleague Patel is tech savvy as they join together to take down the cruel and greedy head of a powerful conglomerate who has people killed on a whim. But what happens with the killer Toro sets up a clever plan to take down the man who’s paid him to kill for years? Once again Vega uses her analytical powers and need to protect those who need protection? What about families? Children? What is the treasure the killer Toro promises? The reader will not be disappointed as the plot surges to its final conclusion. Don’t miss this book or this writer.

A Killer’s Code - This is book 3 in the series and I have been looking forward to its release, as I enjoyed both the first and second. This one, like the first two, didn’t disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which was full of action. No plot give aways, but all I would say is go back to book 1 and read all 3. They are great. This one could be read as a stand-alone if you wanted, but as I say, read them all. Great series.

Book three is action packed and unpredictable… A Killer’s Code should be read as part of the series as it picks up where the last book left off and Dani’s past history is important to understand her character development. FBI Special Agent Daniela “Dani” Vega teamed up with the assassin, Toro in the last book and this book deals with an explosive tell all video left by the assassin. Dani and her team must decode the clues to uncover who Toro worked for. Toro’s boss brings out the big guns in an attempt to stop the FBI. Dani stares down danger and uses her special skills to do what she always does- save the day. Action packed and unpredictable, A Killer’s Code is another thrill ride in the Daniela Vega series that will have you coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased, and non-mandatory review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

Fast-Paced and Action-Packed! Isabella Maldonado is one of my favorite authors. She is an outstanding storyteller, and her books are always action-packed and fast-paced. I loved that this book involved Toro, and that Flint was back as well. The plot was fantastic as Dani and the others try to find a treasure trove of evidence that will bring down a lot of powerful people. I also loved the personal aspects of Dani's life that were included. What happened at the end was exciting and it will be great to see her brother's role in future books. Her mom's drawings seem very interesting too. At times, I did think the villains were a little too all powerful and it was annoying that they were so often ten steps ahead but overall, it was still an excellent story. I highly recommend this entire series! 4.5 stars.Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC!

A Killer's Code is hard to put down, so clear your schedule! FBI Special Agent Daniela “Dani” Vega is back in another exciting, fast-paced, smart thriller! Hit man Gustavo Toro reaches out to the FBI from beyond the grave, providing them a series of cryptic clues to what is basically a treasure hunt to evidence he collected over his career. This evidence is so "hot" that it will identify powerful men that have been using Toro's services and help put them away, but one of those men is in a position to know what the FBI knows and will do everything he can to stop Vega and her team from finding Toro's treasure. Maldonado knows how to grab -and keep- the reader's attention: the plot is action-packed and suspenseful, and the characters are three-dimensional and relatable, despite some almost superhero-like qualities. Vega is a strong but very likeable female "lead". While this book is 3rd in a series, I think it can easily be read as a standalone (although there is spoiler or two, so if you love this one and go back to read the earlier books, you may need to try to forget some of what you know).

Great crime thriller! A Killer's Code by Isabella Maldonado is the third installment in the Dani Vega series. While this can be read as a standalone novel, if you are a reader who loves the backstory of the characters you might want to read the first two before reading this.Dani Vega is a genius at cracking codes and a former Army Ranger. Right from the start she is a capable, confident force to be reckoned with in her team. Hitman Gustavo Toro sends a message from the grave leaving clues about the buried evidence the team needs to bring down the people who had hired him. Vega and the rest of the FBI are on a cross country journey to try to decipher the clues left by Toro and uncover the mastermind behind the killings. The fact that the author was previously in the law enforcement field gives weight to this twisty crime thriller. This book had a bit of everything including great characters, twisty plot, action and the intricacies of family and relationships.Thank you to NetGalley, Isabella Maldonado, and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC. Expected release day is January 21st 2025.

Dani Vega rides again It’s been a long wait, but book 3 is finally here, and it’s excellent. This book is chock full of details from past stories that are now cleaned up,along with some of the family issues that Dani must deal with even as her job is calling her with fury in its eyes. The writing is top notch, nothing is left to guess and Vega remains the de facto in her team. This book is busy with changes in the lives of Dani’s family as well asher FBI team, and as we all know, Dani is not particularly in favor of changes. I look forward to the next installment, and everyone who readsthis story will as well.

A Killer's Code I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. This story begins with Dani being called to a meeting as a result of a file that the FBI Direcyor received from a person known as Toro. Toro had died several months earlier and this file would wind up sending Dani and ger team on a treasure hunt. Toro, a killer, explained that he had buried evidence that would bring to justice those people that hired him to do the killings. The file presented a clue which had the team going to Las Vegas, and while there they would discover another clue taking them someplace else. This went on a couple more times and it seemed that people outside of Dani's team were trying to prevent Toro's evidence being recorded. The latest clue had them going to Arizona in search of an individual. Hopefully this time they would find this person alive since their earlier visits resulted in people dying. To find out what treasure Toro had hidden, what transpired in Arizona and how everything worked out in the end, then you need to read this book.

Military background+codebreaking skills = compelling heroine For Fans Of: Jeffrey Deaver, John SanfordPart of Series: Book 3Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕Genre: 🔪 ThrillerViolence: 🪓🪓🪓TW: Guns, blood, mention of tortureSynopsis: 3rd in series featuring FBI agent & expert code-breaker Daniela Vega. The death of a former hit man sends Dani & her team on a cross-country hunt for a trove of information implicating major criminals. Despite the resources at their disposal, their seemingly omniscient adversary is always a step ahead.Thoughts: Maldonado is one of my auto-read authors, because I love this series, along with her Nina Guerrera books. The author marries her background in law enforcement with strong plot lines & character development to create stories that balance action-filled suspense with heart. The puzzle at the center of A Killer’s Code, set in motion by the dead assassin, is pleasingly complex & highlights Dani’s unique skill set. Maldonado is adept at giving readers moments to breath between tense action sequences, which she uses to share backstory that continues to add color & shade to her strong female protagonist. I’ll also enjoyed the love story subplot woven into this installment. This book lacks the whodunit element that I’ve enjoyed in earlier books. The suspense instead stems from how Dani & team will extricate themselves from escalating scenarios. I typically prefer that question mark, but Maldonado crafts a compelling, page-turning alternative in A Killer’s Code.

FBI Treasure Hunt to Retrieve Incriminating Evidence A man starts the confession properly, but things change when he says that he is there to confess to multiple murders that he has committed. He does not know the number. He is also responsible for the deaths indirectly of countless more. He explains to the man what he must do to receive absolution. The man says that he is seeking absolution for those he killed, but he will kill again. It is part of his job. The priest tells him he cannot be reconciled without genuine contrition. And he is not if he has no intention of changing his ways. The priest tells him that then he cannot absolve him. The man leaves, and a story of true devotion starts. The novel consists of three main storyline threads. The first thread is narrated by a professional killer, Gustavo Toro. They all are narrated in flashbacks, as he is killed before the novel's present time. Toro was a character in the first novel in this series. The next thread is the search for Toro’s treasure, his documentation, who was behind every one of his kills, and a request to find and keep Tina Castillo alive. The last thread is narrated primarily by a boss and his henchman, who often uses Toro services. They are trying to find Toro’s treasure and Castillo first. The FBI team, SAC Steve Wu, SA Daniela Vega, and their tech support, Sanjeev Patel, face many problems in achieving their goals. Toro’s directions are in the form of a treasure hunt to ensure that only the FBI would be the first to find it. They need to solve a puzzle to find the hidden clue to the next clue. As for finding Castillo, her two coworkers are killed, and their boss lives just a little longer before he is killed. To make matters worse, the team's boss tries to hamper their progress and releases critical information that endangers the team’s success. Lastly, the FBI team is in mortal danger several times throughout the novel. The pace of this novel is fast. Unlike most action-thrillers, the start provides adequate action to earn that moniker. My interest was solidly locked in early with the intellectual side of the novel, followed by the action side. There is a hidden B-storyline thread; well, I did not see it until the novel’s end. This is the first novel in which Wu and Vega act as partners. Their interaction sheds more insight into both of their characters. There is much more background on Vega's time with the military. Vega’s mother is emerging from her long-term dementia. Her aunt has been raising Vega’s brother and sisters is changing as she no longer blames Vega for testifying against her mother for killing her father. Also, her brother is an adult and is interested in the FBI. She is not happy about that. Overall, I found this novel’s aspect very interesting, and it increased my reading enjoyment. Some aspects of this novel that can cause some readers to stop reading are not at a serious level. There are no intimate scenes. Profanity is at a low level, although some euphemisms are used in place of the objectionable language. Most violence is described after the fact until a very violent scene erupts near the novel’s end. This is the third novel in this series. I have read the previous two. Even though Gustavo Toro's character played a significant role in the first novel, I did not see any references left unexplained. You should be able to read and enjoy reading this novel.I have racked my mind trying to find something that degraded my reading enjoyment of this novel. I could not find any. There is much on the plus side of this novel. The small size of the investigative group makes the novel much easier to follow. The parallel tracking of the antagonists kept the edge on the suspense because it was a race, and they were not playing fair. The pace of the novel was satisfactory for me. It appears this will be the last in this series, so there were some series loose ends. I was happy with the way the author tied these up.This is the fifth novel by this author that I have read. I have purchased two previous novels that are on my sizeable to-be-read list. She is solidly in my Will-Read category. If this genre interests you, I do recommend reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel and am looking forward to reading further novels from this author. I rate this novel with five stars.I received this novel's free prepublication e-book version through NetGalley from Thomas & Mercer. My review is based solely on my own reading experience. Thank you, Thomas & Mercer, for the opportunity to read and review this novel early.
